Welcome to the Linux Home Desktop!
This web site is the online complement to a community education course I teach, titled Linux Desktop for Home Users. This is an introduction for people who are new to Linux, technically inclined or not, who would like to check it out as an option to run on their home machines.
The menu on the left is in three sections.
- The upper section is non-technical and is for end users. Once Linux is installed and configured it is about as easy to use as Windows or Mac. It is also very stable, secure, and free or very low cost.
- The center section gets more technical, and covers installation and hardware configuration. Installing Linux and getting everything working can vary from trivially easy to rocket science. If you're just interested in Linux as an end user you might consider getting some assistance with this part.
- The lower section tells where to go for further information or to get copies of Linux, and has a page of general and copyright information on this site.
Most of this site is about where to go to get started with Linux, with many links to sources of further information.
